Where the Powhatan Indians Lived:
The Powhatan Indians lived in the Eastern Woodlands of the United States of America. It is located in the East of the United States. Virginia is located in this region too. The Powhatan Indians lived where Virginia is today. They lived in longhouses made out of wood and bark. They built their homes near rivers or streams so they could hunt and fish for food.

The Powhatans had mild winters and hot and humid summers. Their land had rivers, hills, mountains, and coastland.

The Powhatan Indians walked to get from place to place. Also since they lived near the river, they were able to travel by canoes. (A canoe is a boat that is made out of wood)

Occupations (Jobs) of the Powhatan's:
The Powhatans had several jobs they needed to do in order to survive. They hunted deer, turkeys, and rabbits. They fished in the near by lakes (The Great Lakes), rivers (Mississippi River), and oceans (Atlantic Ocean). They also were farmers. They grew the food they ate. Some of the foods you would see are maize (corn), beans, and squash. These three foods are also known as the "Three Sisters". The indians would plant these three foods close to each other. The corn would grow tall and strong. The beans would wrap around the corn to stay in place, and the leaves of the squash would protect the roots of all of the plants.

How did they adapt to their enviornment
The Powhatans farmed, fished, hunted, and used tress for homes and canoes. They also gathered plants for food.
